Confirmation by Alix [d. 1246], countess of Eu, to Hastings Priory, of all their benefices and all of their tenements, woods, waters, plains, pastures and other things given to them in her county. This is followed by an extensive list of the priory’s property and their locations. In return, the priory will hold a mass of St Mary Magdalen and grant remission of mortal sins. Given for the soul of Alix’s husband Raoul [de Lusignan, d. 1219] de Exoudon, once count of Eu, and for those of her children and friends, living and dead; given at Bor-[hole in the text]-esse, 1241.
Endorsed: in a 13th-century hand, ‘confirmac[i]o Alic[ie] comitiss[e] Aug’.
Affixed with a fragmentary seal of Alix, lozenge, brown, with a full-length figure of Alix, facing right, in a long dress and cloak, her right hand on her hip, her left hand outstretched. Reverse: a heraldic shield, barry, with a label of seven points, with the fragmentary legend ‘…illum ali…’.
