Seal of John Morton, archbishop of Canterbury. Design: God the Father sitting holding Christ crucified with, above, Virgin and Child between two suppliant figures half-length, on the left a mitred man standing, on the right a mitred man standing, below, the suppliant archbishop half-length between two shields of arms (on the left, a pallium (charged with crosses fitched?) with in chief a cross formy fitched; on the right, quarterly, 1 and 4 (?) a goat’s head erased, 2 and 3 ermine), all within an architectural setting. Legend: [1] Sigil[……….] dei gr [………….]. Pointed oval, c. 90 x c. 55 mm. Orange wax; fair. Damage to design and legend. On tongue.
