Notification of King John granting to Sawtry Abbey the right to enclose for their sole use, excepting royal hunting, the woods of Sawtry, Southwic, Totenhoe and Gothil.
Witnessed by Ranulf de Blundeville, earl of Chester and earl of Lincoln (d. 1232); David, earl of Huntingdon and lord of Garioch (d. 1219); William Longespée, earl of Salisbury (d. 1226); Roger de Lacy, Constable of Chester (d. 1211); William III de Briouze (d. 1211); Hugh de Neville (d. 1234); William Brewer (d. 1226); Robert Fitzwalter (d. 1235); Saer de Quincy, earl of Winchester (d. 1219).
Given by the hand of Hugh of Wells, Archdeacon of Wells and Bishop of Lincoln (d. 1235), at Stoke [Bishopstoke, Hampshire] on 7 June, 7 John [1205].
Endorsed on the dorse, 'Annotata est libertas carte istius de minutis particulis foreste in rotulo d. Hen. III. [1223-4]'.
