This notebook contains notes on the Assyrian glossary and starts with an index of words in the front cover. It summarises from notebooks Talbot used at the Athenaeum Club (see Add MS 88942/1/107, and Add MS 88942/1/114-120). Talbot was elected to the Athenaeum in 1824.
This notebook is part of a series of 20 notebooks (Add MS 88942/1/68-86), of which No. 5 is missing. The notebooks usually have indices of words in the front cover. The series is followed by the 'Assyrian Glossary' series of notebooks (Add MS 88942/1/88-105) which includes material for Part 3 and a possible Part 4 of the 'Assyrian Glossary'. Talbot published the results in a three-part publication between 1868 and 1873 as 'Contribution Towards a Glossary of the Assyrian Language', in the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society.
Other notebooks with comparable content - for example, Add MS 88942/1/97 and Add MS 88942/1/111 - suggest that a continuation of the published series was planned. This fourth part, however, was not published, perhaps because Norris had been working on an influential dictionary at the same time. Other notebooks relating to the Assyrian Glossary are: Add MS 88942/1/87, Add MS 88942/1/108, Add MS 88942/1/109, and Add MS 88942/1/111. The series is also connected to Add MS 88942/1/87.
