This notebook (entitled 'Memoranda') comprises, in the main, notes on three topics: horticultural matters (such as plants ordered, and 'Garden Memoranda'); notes on experiments concerning 'galvanism'; and various notes concerning photography. It also includes occasional notes interspersed on other matters, such as books sent for binding, tasks 'To be done in London' (with most items 'to be done' struck-through), remarks on servants (pp. 2, 4) and even a brief note to 'sharpen penknife' (p. 40). The pages of the notebook have been numbered in pencil by Talbot (confirmed by page references to 'Garden Memoranda' and London tasks on the inside front cover).
For notes on the chemistry of photography, see 'Phot.' (p. 39) and 'Phot. 2' (p. 43). Other notes on photography occur throughout, including a record of 'Pictures sent' (from p. 57), and 'Marks on Shadow pictures' (p. 42).
On the final page of the notebook (upside down) are brief notes on Welsh etymology - see also, in this regard, the note (p. 8) concerning a Welsh Dictionary, from Gale & Curtis, of Paternoster Row.
