- Title:
- Talbot: Notebook ('Talbotypes')
- Scope & Content:
-
A notebook with an accompanying loose sheet, neither of which are in Talbot's hand.
The notebook contains ten brief copied extracts of letters (1806-1823) from Lady Elisabeth Feilding to Lady Mary Talbot, and includes an anecdote by Lady Harriot Frampton; the extracts have been selected with a biographical purpose, reporting incidents and aspects of Henry Talbot's youth and character.
On the loose sheet is written, in the manner of the title of a work: 'Reminiscences / of / Henry Fox Talbot / only Child / of / W. Davenport Talbot Esq / of Lacock Abbey / and of the / Lady Eth. Fox Strangways / born Feb 1800. / Inventor of the / Art of Photography / & Assyriologue'.
The notebook is without date and is probably posthumous. The title to the notebook may not relate to the contents of the notebook (on the other hand, it may well be an apt title re-applied to a biographical context).
