Grant by Philip II (king of Spain, r. 1556-1598) and Mary I of England (r. 1553-1558), styled 'King and Queen of England, France, Naples, Jerusalem and Ireland', to Henry Fitzalan (b. 1512, d. 1580), 12th Earl of Arundel, of manors, lands and other properties in the hundreds of Bury and Rotherbridge, Sussex, in exchange for other lands in Sussex and Kent. Preceded by a description of how these lands had been granted to others but resumed in the Court of Augmentations by Henry VIII and Edward VI; given at Hampton Court, 15 July 1555.
Endorsed: in a late 16th-century hand, ‘The hundreds / of Bury / and Rutherbridge / Gr.’
Decoration:
1 large historiated initial 'P'(hilippus), enclosing a portrait of Philip and Mary enthroned below a canopy with the text ‘Vivant rex et regina’, in gold and colours; Philip and Mary’s coat of arms, foliate M, P, and R initials, a lion and a dragon heraldic supporters holding fleur-de-lys banners, and a Tudor rose topped with a crown, with a foliate border, all in gold and colours (membrane 1).
