- Title:
- Notarised copy of the will of Cecilia Foscari
- Scope & Content:
-
A notarised copy of the will of Cecilia, daughter of John Veneno and widow of Frederico Foschari, made by Caesar Ziliolus, notary and secretary to the doge of Venice.
5 May 1567, bearing the notarial mark of Caesar Ziliolus and signatures.
The original will was made by Jacopo Grasolarius of St Apollinaris Church, once a plebanus notary of Venice, and dated 28 March 1531. Cecilia asks that Grasolarius write her will, appoints two of her kinsmen as executors, and asks for her will to be written in Italian, so that her executors can understand it; the text then switches to Italian for several lines.
Endorsed: in a late 16th-century hand, ‘Testamentum Mag. D. Cacilie Fascari / relicta olim Mag. D. Federici quee obit / die quarta Maii MDLXVII.’
