Will of Joanna Chiltern, widow, wife of John Chiltern, of Newington-next-Hythe [Kent], leaving her body to St Mary’s chapel in Newington Church, and leaving bequests to the altar there, to the parish priest for repairs, to several relatives and friends, and appointing her executors. An addendum regarding the lease of her mansion and land to Robert Mowse and his wife Elizabeth and their rent; given 15 March 1480 [1481].
Dorse: Probate certificate by the official of the archbishop of Canterbury; given 17 September 1516.
Endorsed: in an 18th-century hand, ‘Widd[ow] Chilton’s / will’.
Affixed with an imperfect seal of Joanna, lozenge, brown, with a portrait of a woman, framed, with the fragmentary legend, ‘sigillum …nn…’
