Correspondence of 1st Lord Holland with Mary, widow of John Hervey, Lord Hervey of Ickworth; 1748-1765. Extracts are printed by D. M. Stuart, Molly Lepell, Lady Hervey, 1936, D. Erskine, Augustus Hervey's Journal, 1953, and D. Pope, At 12 Mr. Byng was shot ..., 1962. The letters of Lord Holland are originals, apparently recovered later from Ickworth. With them probably came the following papers (now placed at the end of the volume, ff. 169-229) of Lady Hervey's father-in-law, John Hervey, Baron Hervey of Ickworth (1st Earl of Bristol 1714) and his family:- (1) Letter from Lord Hervey to Elizabeth Carr, mother of his first wife Isabella (d. 1693) and widow of Sir Robert Carr, 3rd Bart., 27 July 1695. f. 169;- (2) Receipt for the purchase of exchequer bills by Sir Thomas Felton, 4th Bart., father of Elizabeth, 2nd wife of Lord Hervey; 26 June 1697, f. 171;- (3) Grant by Queen Anne of lodgings in Whitehall to Sir Thomas Felton, as Master of the Queen's Household, 26 June 1702. Signed. f. 172;- (4) Legal papers and correspondence, including (ff. 174-262b) papers relating to a lawsuit, Mrs. Jane Pistor v. Henry Golding and Sir Compton Felton, 5th Bart., 1711-1714. ff. 174-265.
