Political journal (evidently one of a series extending to 1746, see f. 1); 6 Jan 1742-18 Nov 1743. Copy. The original was written by a clergyman (see ff. 9, 16, 46, 55) in close touch with or in the service of Frederick, Prince of Wales, probably Francis Ayscough, D.D., Clerk of the Closet to the Prince of Wales 1740 (as suggested in a note by 6th Lord Ilchester on f. ii). Individuals are frequently referred to by initials or according to a code, a key to which is provided by contemporary annotations or by an 'Explanation', aft. 1767, pasted inside the front cover (f. i). 20th cent. pencil annotations also appear on ff. 2, 3b, 26b, 27b.
