1 large foliate and interlace initial, in colours and gold (f. 3r). Large initials alternating red, blue, or pale brown, usually with simple decoration in one of the other colours. Small initials alternating red, blue, or pale brown. Spaces for coloured initials left blank after f. 90r.

Dimensions: 260 x 175 mm (text space 180 x 140 mm - but variable - in three columns).
Foliation: ff. iii + 114 (ff. i-iii and 112-114 are flyleaves).
Collation: i2 (ff. 1-2), ii-xiv8 (ff. 3-106), xv6-1 (last leaf missing, probably blank; ff. 107-111).
Script: Protogothic.
Binding: Post-1600. Burney binding of polished brown calf, blind- and gilt-tooled; gilt edges; rebacked in 1962.

Provenance:
Unidentified English owner, 13th century: with annotations in leadpoint throughout.
The benedictine abbey of St Augustine, Canterbury, 14th century: its characteristic title and letter-mark: 'Math(eu)s glo. minori glo. cum [over erasure:] B.' (f. 1r; recorded in the medieval library catalogue; see Ker 1964, p. 41).
Unidentified reader, 17th century(?), who has written a title and a ten-line note (f. 1r), observing that the manuscript must pre-date 1200, because it does not have the chapter-divisions devised by Stephen Langton.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
