Material: Parchment.
Foliation: Volume I: ff 134 (two unfoliated modern paper flyleaves at the beginning and two at the end). Volume II: ff 165 (two unfoliated modern paper flyleaves at the beginning and two at the end).
Dimensions: 275 x 215 mm.
Ruling: 215 x 160 mm. Leroy D 34E2 or D 34D2, 34 lines per page.
Binding: Typical Askew 18th century binding of diced calf, with the usual 'palmette and fleur-de-lys' gilt roll, marbled endpapers.
Decoration: Foliage headpiece, in red and brown (volume I, f 1r). Other simple headpieces. Large red initials, some decorated with foliate shapes. Small red or gold initials.

Origin: Eastern Mediterranean.
Provenance:
Written for Ioasaph, abbot of the monastery of our Saviour, July 1184 (colophon, volume 2, f 165v).
Concealed by Father Ioannes Koubetzes in August 1453 (inscription, vol. 2, f 165v).
Simonopetra Monastery, Mount Athos: ownership inscription on the lower margin of vol. 1, f 1r.
Richard Mead (b. 1673, d. 1754), physician and collector of books and art: bequeathed by him to Askew.
Anthony Askew (b. 1722, d. 1774), physician and book collector: his sale, 7 March 1785, lot 631, purchased by Lewes for 1£ 1s.
Unidentified seller: included in the anonymous sale 'the property of another Gentleman' (in the Edwards sale) 12 February 1787, lot 1507, bought by d’Éon for £4 14s 6d.
Charles Geneviève Louis Auguste André Timothée, Chevalier D'Éon de Beaumont in the French nobility (b. 1728, d. 1810), diplomatist and transvestite: 'De la Bibliotheque de la Chevaliere D'Eon' (f 1r, both volumes): his sale, 12 February 1813, lot 17, possibly bought by Burney.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
