Manuel Philes, De animalium proprietate, ff 2r-45v, imperfect. Inc. Καὶ πρὸς λὸγων ἄπασαν ἀρκέσῃ χάριν, expl. οὗ ναυτικοὶ καλοῦσιν ἐκ τοῦ πράγματος. Also lacking are chs 2, 12, 15, 16, 19-22, 28, 29, 32, 33, 37-40, 43, 47, 50, 57, 59, 66-68, 114. Also imperfect at the end of chs 1, 27, 42. Some marginal scholia. Preceded by a note on Philes in Latin, f 1r.

Ruling: 25 lines.
Binding: 17th century French binding of gold tooled red morocco with a central oval panel on the covers excised and replaced by one with the French royal arms, patched and gilt-stamped `Codex Burneianus'.
Scribe: Identified as Ἄγγελος Βεργίκιος (Rep. I 3).
Decoration: Coloured illustrations of each of the animals.

Owned by the Abbey of Moutier-St-Jean in the diocese of Langres in the late 17th century: ownership inscription, ff 1r, 45v.
Purchased by Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D. D., classical scholar, at the sale of the personal collection of the London bookseller James Edwards, Evans', 5 April 1815, lot 300.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
