Gaius Valerius Catullus, Poems (ff. 1r-60r), followed by six lines of anonymous verse (ff. 60r-60v).
Alternative readings and comments on the text are added in the margins from a corrected exemplar by the main scribe only as far as 64:183 (f. 37v), where, in a smaller less formal script a cropped note in the top left corner reads ‘[ ] ab alio originali / [ ] correcto inceptum fuit’. Some lines left blank are marked ‘deest’ (f. 48v).
Formerly bound with Burney MS 343, which has offsets of Burney MS 133, f. 1r.
Decoration:
Decorated with a full border of white vine-stems on a ground of gold, red, blue and green, with gold roundels containing devices, and a large historiated initial depicting two half-length laymen, one handing a book to the other (f. 1r); small initials to each poem in colours and gold on a white vine-stem ground (that on f. 46r contains a human head; cf. Burney MS 343, f. 8v).

Origin: Italy, S. (Naples).
Provenance:
Made for Alfonso II, Duke of Calabria (1448-95), who became King of Naples (1494-95), with his devices in the border of the f. 1r. Formerly bound with Burney MS 343, which has the ducal arms of Alfonso.
Unidentified owner: with an erased ownership(?) inscription in the lower margin of f. 1r.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar; he was presumably responsible for separating the manuscript into two volumes.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
