Cicero, Epistulae ad Familiares (ff. 2r-193v); preceded (f. 1r) by a table giving the dates of Easter from 1480 to 1831, with numbers for March in red and for April in black.
Sporadic 15th- and 16th-century marginalia, including ‘A di 26 mazo Mdxxxiij’ (f. 108v).
Decoration:
Decorated with a large initial in green, red and blue on a gold ground (f. 2r); 14 large initials at the beginning of the remaining books in gold edged with black, with white vine-stems on a red, green, and blue ground with white dots (ff. 24r, 36r, 46v, 61v, 74v, 83r, 92v, 100r, 119r, 131r, 146v, 168r, 173v, 185v); the Book 2 initial excised from f. 14v; small initials alternately plain red or blue. Headings in red.
The decoration is typically Veronese according to unpublished notes of A. C. de la Mare at the Bodleian Library, Oxford.

Dimensions: 270 x 175 mm (text space 180 x 105 mm), in 31 lines. Ruled in blind.
Foliation: ff. ii + 195 (ff. i-ii and 194-195 are flyleaves).
Collation: i10+1 (1st leaf added; ff. 1-11), ii-xviii10 (ff. 12-181), xix12 (ff. 182-193). Catchwords surrounded by fishing-hook-shaped squiggles. The first recto of each gathering with a 19th-century binder’s quire signature.
Script: Humanistic, written 'above top line'.
Binding: Post-1600. Burney binding of polished calf, with blind and gilt rolls; rebacked in 1962. Fore-edge title.

Provenance:
Unidentified Veronese owner, 16th century: inscribed in Italian by a semi-literate hand, in Veronese dialect, ‘Questo libro sie de mi va/lerio beta chilgata si/mel daga soto pena de la bote/ga(?) un […?] tanti / pugini [recte pugni?] sula musa’, and with a pen-trial by an earlier hand ‘Carisimo …’ (f. 1r).
Owned by a monastery apparently dedicated to S. Maria Immaculata, 18th century: inscribed 'S.M.I.', and 'Monasterij S. Marie I[…]late Alpe'(?) (erased, f. 2r).
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
