Materials: Paper.
Dimensions: 285 x 205 mm (text space 195 x 120 mm), in 35 lines. Ruled in leadpoint.
Foliation: ff. i + 240 (ff. i, 240 are flyleaves; f. 1 is post-medieval; ff. 237-239v are ruled, otherwise blank). Burney pagination 1-469.
Collation: i-xxiii10 (ff. 2-231), xxiv8 (ff. 232-239). Catchwords.
Script: Written in fairly round Gothic script, with Humanistic features; Greek added in spaces left by the main scribe.
Decoration:
Large initials in gold and colours at the start of each main section (ff. 1r, 7v, 19r, 37v, 45v, 47v) and of each book in Ad Atticum (ff. 61v, 75v, 85r, 96v, 108v, 119v, 134r, 146v, 160v, 171r, 181v, 194r, 207r, 217r, 226v), the first the full height of the text, the others four to ten lines high; two-line initials alternately blue or red, both with purple penwork. An empty wreath, at the beginning of Cornelius Nepos's Vita Pomponii Attici.
Headings and running-titles in larger script in red.
Binding: Post-1600. Diced polished calf; gilt spine; edges gilt, over red and green speckling; 17th century. cf. Burney MSS 132 and 157.

Origin: Italy, N. E. (Ferrara?).
Provenance:
Written probably in Ferrara, between 1460 and 1470, with some marginalia added by the scribe of Burney MS 134, Ferrara, Biblioteca Comunale Ariostea, Antonelli MS 632, and the first gathering of Naples, BN, XI AA 49, according to unpublished notes of A. C. de la Mare at the Bodleian Library.
Unidentified Italian owner, 17th century: inscribed with a title in Latin and Italian (f. 1r); perhaps also responsible for the binding.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
