Cicero, De Amicitia (imperfect); lacking most of 25-26 (from magis [catchwords id diceres, erased] to est et uoluntarium) due to the loss of a leaf after f. 16.
Following the end of the text have been added (probably in the 15th century) two lines from the rubric which often precedes the hymn Ave virgo virginum stella matutina: 'Virginis intacte cum veneris ante figuram/ Pretereundo cave ne sileatur ave' (see Walther 1959, no. 20471).
Annotated in formal and cursive humanistic scripts, sometimes in purple ink (e.g. ff. 32v-33r).
Decoration:
Decorated with a three-line blue initial with red flourishing (f. 1r); paraphs in red or blue (ff. 1r-4r).
Capitals stroked in red.

Foliation: ff. v + 60 (ff. i-v and 56-60 are modern paper flyleaves). Burney pagination 1-108.
Collation: i16 (ff. 1-16), ii16-1 (1st leaf missing; ff. 17-31), iii16 (ff. 32-47), iv8 (ff. 48-55). Catchwords.
Script: Semi-humanistic, written 'above top line'.
Binding: Post-1600. 'Sicily' binding of polished brown calf (typical of manuscripts bought by Burney at Sotheby's, 19 April 1817, which included books said to have been imported from Sicily).
Flyleaves with watermark of 'W Turner & Son', dated c. 1817.

Unidentified reader, 15th century: added two lines at the end of the text.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar; presumably acquired by him at about the time of the anonymous ‘Sicily’ sale (Sotheby’s, 19 April 1817).
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
