This manuscript was collated by Gilbert Wakefield in a copy of Heinsius' 1665 edition of Claudian now in the British Library (C.45.c.26).

Material: Parchment.
Dimensions: 225 x 100 mm (text space 160 x 60 mm), in 33 lines. Ruled in leadpoint.
Foliation: ff. 115 (ff. 1-2, 114-115 are flyleaves). Burney foliation (ignoring the flyleaves) 1-111.
Collation: i-iv8 (ff. 3-34), v4-1 (3rd leaf cancelled; ff. 35-37), vi-xiv8 (ff. 38-109), xv4 (ff. 110-113). Traces of catchwords. Quire signatures in brown 'crayon' I-XIII.
In 1797, while in the Duke of Grafton's possession, it was collated against the 1665 printed edition of the text by J. Walker of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, whose copy is now British Library C.45.c.26.
Script: Gothic, written 'above top line'; each line of verse on a new line.
Binding: Post-1600. 18th-century binding of red morocco; dark blue endpapers; the edges of the leaves gilt; rust and copper stains on the first and last leaves suggest that a former binding had a single clasp at the fore-edge.

The Augustinian abbey of St Denis, Rheims: 'Iste liber e(st) de (con)ue(n)tu s. dyonisij reme(n)sj(?) […] d(omi)ni(?) .I. … abbas(??) n(ost)ri(?)' (f. 3r, erased).
Unidentified arms: a reserved trefoil on a dark ground (f. 3r).
? Walter Clavell, F. R.S., elected 1704, admitted to the Inner Temple in 1700: perhaps in his sale, at Heath's, 29 March 1742, p. 81, lot 14.
Unidentified French bookseller(?): with an eight-line note ('MSS tres precieux par son antiquité …') and price '120' (f. 1v).
? Count Justin de MacCarthy-Reagh (b. 1744, d. 1811): his anonymous London sale, Leigh and Sotheby, 18 May 1789, lot 1657 (the catalogue quoting the French description on f. 1v), bought by the Duke of Grafton for for £23 2s.
Augustus Henry FitzRoy (b. 1735, d. 1811), 3rd duke of Grafton, politician: '1789 D. of Grafton.' (f. 3r, over an erasure), with his price-code 'ab-a-e' (f. 2v); and '114)' (f. 2v; written the same as '14)' in Burney MS 158); inscribed 'I bought this MS. at an auction, at Leigh's, of books, the collection of a gentleman in France. …' (f. 1v); in his anonymous sale, 6 June 1815, lot 598 ('598' in pencil, f. 2), bought by Burney for £17 10s.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
Inscribed with notes initialled by John Holmes(?) (between 1800 and 1854) (f. 2v) and Frederic Madden (between 1828 and 1866) (f. 1v).
