All but the last two words of f. 43r repeat the text on the facing page, and the former was therefore marked ‘vacat’.

Dimensions: 245 x 170 mm (text space 145 x 95 mm), in 23 lines. Vertical rulings in brown leadpoint, horizontals in pale grey ink.
Foliation: ff. i + 75 + 1* (ff. i-1*, 73-75 are flyleaves; ff. i, 75 are paper). Burney pagination 1-141.
Collation: i-viii8 (ff. 2-65), ix8-1 (last leaf cancelled; ff. 66-72).
Script: Written ‘below top line’, in humanistic script.
Binding: Post-1600. 18th-century Askew binding with the usual ‘palmette and fleur-de-lis’ gilt tool.

Annotated with a very few corrections, and more frequently with subject headings by another hand.
Mario Maffei (b. 1463, d. 1537), with traces of the usual erased ‘De figli …’ inscription (f. 2r, upper margin; cf. Burney MS 214; see Ullman 1955, p. 374, and Ruysschaert 1958, p. 323).
Anthony Askew (b. 1722, d. 1772), his sale 1785, lot 459, bought by Lewes for 18s.
Sold with other Askew-Lewes MSS by Leigh and Sotheby, 12 Feb. 1787, lot 1503, bought by d’Eon for £1 7s.
Charles d’Eon de Beaumont (d. 1810); inscribed ‘De la Bibliothèque de la Chevalière D’Eon ./. / olim Maffeianus’ (f. 1r) and ‘£15 st.’ in red (f. 1*v; cf. Burney MS 161, etc.); in his sale, Christie’s, 5 May 1791, fourth catalogue, lot 17, and Christie’s, 12 Feb. 1813, lot 11.
