Watermarks are a pair of shears (similar to Briquet 1968, nos. 3762-68, especially no. 3766, from Venice, 1471).
Dimensions: 220 x 140 mm (text space 135 x 80 mm), in typically 20 or 27 lines. Ruled lightly in leadpoint.
Foliation: ff. iv + 80 (ff. i-iv and 77-80 are flyleaves). Burney paginaton 1-152.
Collation: i2 (ff. 1-2), ii-vi12 (ff. 3-62), vii14 (ff. 63-76). Vertical catchwords. Leaf signatures.
Script: Written ‘above top line’ in humanistic script. Scribe: 'Petrus Leo Ortinus'.
Binding: Post-1600. Burney binding of lightly diced brown calf. Flyleaves with watermark of 'W Turner & Son'.

Written in 1461: with the scribal colophon, 'Mocccc 6i die xiij Februarij ; petrusleo / Ortinus scripsit / Qui me furatur in tribus lignis suspendatur / Deo gr(ati)as' (f. 76v); noted by Kristeller 1989, p. 134; cf. Florence, Biblioteca Laurenziana, Ashburnham 1702 (see Kristeller 1977, pp. 97-98).
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
