Decoration:
Decorated with a partial border rising from a gold vase, and a matching lower border with an almond-shaped shield, whose original arms (possibly a yellow? lion rampant?) have been effaced and replaced in ink with four crescents (f. 1r); four-line white vine-stem initials on a blue, green, and red ground (ff. 1r, 19r, 31r, 51v, 63v, 76v, 78v, 88r, 108v, 130v), one similar two-line initial (f. 151r); other two-line initials in plain blue.

Material: Parchment.
Dimensions: 205 x 125 mm (text space 140 x 75 mm), in 25 lines. Prickings in all three outer margins.
Foliation: ff. vii + 167 (ff. i-vii and 161-165, 167 are flyleaves; f. 166 is Burney's table of contents). Burney pagination 1-320.
Collation: i-xvi10 (ff. 1-160). Catchwords at the edge of the lower margin, often cropped. Leaf signatures.
Script: Humanistic cursive, written 'above top line'.
Binding: Post-1600. Burney binding of polished brown calf; the edges of the leaves gauffered and gilt. The spine with five false bands.
The front flyleaves with watermarks '1 / 1814' and 'Ruse & Turners / 1805' (cf. Burney MSS 236, 249 etc.).

Origin: Italy, Central (Florence).
Provenance:
Inscribed 'Hic liber est [...] pe[…] \ olim / scriptus n(un)c eme(n)/datus Anno dni. Mccc[…]' in purple ink (f. 160v), apparently by the main scribe, who was also responsible for numerous annotations and emendations, especially to the rubrics, in the same purple ink.
Unidentified owners: original(?) arms effaced, perhaps argent a lion rampant?; over-drawn with four crescents, the tinctures not indicated (f. 1r).
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar, acquired at or after c. 1814 (the date of a watermark in the flyleaves).
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
