- Custodial History:
-
Origin: Central Italy, (perhaps Florence)
Provenance:
Unidentified humanistic owner, second half of the 15th century(?): the first page heavily glossed, the rest of the volume intermittently glossed.
Unidentified owner, second half of the 15th century(?): inscribed 'd(i) s(er) domenicho' in a cursive hand (f. 76v).
Unidentified owner, 1803: included in an anonymous sale of manuscripts 'not long since collected in Italy', Christie's, 19 May 1803, lot 53 or 54, bought by Burney.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar: traces of an inscription 'No 2020' (f. iv recto) are offset from Burney 277, f. 34v, which must therefore have formerly been a front flyleaf of the present volume.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
