Livy, Ab Urbe Condita (ff. 1r-290v): First (ff. 1r-113r), Third (ff. 113r-213r), and Fourth (ff. 214r-290v) Decades; omitting Book 33.
Decoration:
2 historiated initials (f. 65r, 222r). Large puzzle initials in red and blue with flourishing in the same colours. Small initials in red with blue penwork decoration, or vice versa. Cadells. Most of the rest of the decoration consists of drawings of birds and other figures in the margins (e.g. f. 1r), on the initials (e.g. f. 92v), or attached to looped descenders of the lowest line of writing (e.g. f. 37r). Decorated catchwords. Several designs include a heart (ff. 44r, 193r), or a heart pierced by two arrows (ff. 30v, 113r). An added drawing of a man in profile is labelled 'SVM' (f. 122r).

The text descends from that in Holkham Hall MS 344 (see Reeve 1987, p. 147), which is perhaps the earliest surviving copy of the three decades in a single volume, written in Bologna or perhaps Padua c. 1300.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
