Lucan, De Bello Civili, imperfect (ff. 1r-139r); the scribe wrote 3.17-45 on f. 28r, and jumped to 3.105-132 on 28v; the text on f. 28r was therefore crossed through and marked vacat, and 3.17-104 written on new leaves, inserted as ff. 26-27; f. 27v is blank; preceded by a four-line epitaph of Lucan, inc. Corduba me genuit rapuit Nero prelia dixi (see Munk Olsen 1985, p. 21 no. 45b).

Foliation: ff. iv + 143 (ff. i-iv, 140-143 are flyleaves). Burney pagination 1-277.
Collation: i-ii10 (ff. 1-20), iii10-1+2 (original 6th leaf cancelled, present 6th and 7th leaves inserted; ff. 21-31), iv-xiii10 (ff. 32-131), xiv8 (ff. 132-139). Vertical catchwords.
Script: Written 'above top line' in gothic script, becoming semi-humanistic, with spaces for headings and coloured initials.
Binding: Post-1600. Burney binding of polished calf.

Annotated extensively in cursive script as far as f. 78v, including a sketch map of Brindisi harbour (f. 23v); thereafter with very few annotations.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
