Paulus Orosius, Historiarum Adversum Paganos Libri VII (ff. 4r-90r); preceded (ff. 1r-2r) by two inserted paper leaves with 18th-century notes on Paulus Orosius, perhaps in the hand of Anthony Askew, in English, and by a chapter list, in Latin (ff. 4r-10v); followed by an excerpt from Book 5 chapter 7, added in humanistic script (from [C]um maior pene, to non esse professus est) as at ff. 48v-49r.
Decoration:
1 large historiated initial with partial border, in gold and colours, depicting a woman seated before a skull on a chalice (f. 4r); large parted initials in red and blue with penwork in purple and blue, partly infilled with yellowish wash; smaller initials alternately blue and red, or vice versa.

Foliation: ff. iv + 95 (ff. i-iv, 91-95 are flyleaves; ff. iii-iv, 92-93 are parchment). Burney pagination 1-173.
Collation: i8 (ff. 3-10), ii-xi8 (ff. 11-90). Catchwords.
Script: Semi-humanistic, with spaces for headings usually left blank.
Binding: BM/BL in-house. The edges of the leaves with traces of yellow colouring; the lower edges of the leaves with a title 'P Orosius'.

Francesco Marerio (d. 1442), bishop of Brescia (between 1418 and 1442): inscribed in humanistic script 'Pauli Orosii viri eruditissimi liber hystoriar(um) aduersus Paganoru(m) Calumnias; scriptus Basilee [Basle] anno d(omi)ni n(ost)ri Iesuchristi Na(tivita)tis 1434 Francisci de Marerio Ep(iscop)i Brixien(s)is [followed by a three-line erasure, perhaps ending with a date: die 7 … 144… (?)]' (f. 3v; see Watson 1979, I, 166; cf. Vienna, ÖNB, Cod. 618, signed by Marerio in 1440).
