Dimensions: 200 x 100 mm (text space 155 x 60 mm), in 37 lines. Ruled in leadpoint.
Foliation: ff. iii + 51 + 46* (ff. i-iii, 48-51 are flyleaves). Twysden pagination 1-88.
Collation: i-v8 (ff. 3-42), vi4 (ff. 43-46). Quire signatures on first rectos and last versos: a facing b (ff. 10v-11r), etc.
Script: Protogothic.
Binding: Post-1600. Burney binding of diced calf. The first flyleaf with part of a watermark 'E & P' (cf. Burney MS 195).

Written in Northumbria, possibly at the Benedictine abbey of St Mary, York, according to Lawrence (1994), p. 466, and Lawrence-Mathers (2003), p. 124.
Unidentified owner, 13th century?: 'hic est | bu(?) | Walteri | [..?]eff' (f. 19r, within the coloured initial).
Unidentified owners, 15th century and 16th century, with inscriptions, partly in English, including: 'Ouidus de ponto fidelissime & integraliter p(re)c(io) xvi.d.', 'Quo quis antiquinæ; eo melinæ B. Suggyn.' (f. 2v), 'S(ir) I comend me un to yow p(r)aying yow to send me ye questions of albart. [i.e. Albertus Magnus, Quaestiones de animalibus?] By yo(ur) l[oner dai??] Thoma(s) hossom [/ hopson?]' (f. 47v).
Successive monks of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Mary, York: over an erasure, in a formal florid hand, is 'Iste liber constat Will(el)mo [erasure] monacho monasterij b(ea)te Marie iuxta muros cuiutate Ebor.' (f. 46v); over the erased name in this inscription the name 'Cou(er)dale' has been written by a different hand (see Ker (1964), pp. 217, 321).
Sir Roger Twysden, (b. 1597, d. 1672), 2nd baronet, antiquary: signed (ff. 2r, 3r; dated '1630', f. 2r), and with his pagination.
Sir John Saunders Sebright, (b. 1767, d. 1846), 7th baronet, politician and agriculturist: sold by him in the 'Twysden' sale, 6 April 1807, lot 1108, bought by Burney for £1 7s.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D. D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney's library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
