An incomplete 12th-century copy of one of the most popular Latin grammars of the Middle Ages.
Contents:
ff. 1r-144v: Priscian, Institutiones grammaticae, imperfect; with a four-line heading, barely legible.; ending imperfect in Book 9 at in .v. famaque [catchword:] finitimos.
Decoration:
Seven-line initial, reserved on a red field, enclosing interlacing green foliage on a blue ground (f. 1); one- to six-line initials in plain red, some with rudimentary ornament.

Dimensions: 235 x 155 mm (text space 175 x 105 mm), usually in 28 or 30 lines. Ruled in blind.
Foliation: ff. iii + 148 (ff. i-iii, 146-148 are flyleaves). Burney pagination 1-288.
Collation: 1-188 (ff. 1-144). Catchwords towards the centre of the lower margin.
Script: Written in caroline script, 'above top line'.
Binding: Post-1600. Burney(?) binding of lightly diced calf, blind tooled; flyleaves watermarked 'E & P 1805' (cf. Burney MS 146 etc.); a former flyleaf watermarked with of the arms of Amsterdam (f. 145r).

Inscribed with near-contemporary and later medieval marginal and interlinear glosses and corrections.
Inscribed, 18th century, with brief notes on the extent of the text (ff. 1r, 147r).
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
