This manuscript largely consists of the four books of Elegiae (Elegies) by the poet Sextus Propertius (b. c. 50, d. c. 16 BC). They are followed by a late medieval anonymous derivative of the first book of Propertius’ Elegiae (also known as the Monobiblos, or ‘Single book’, because of its sole focus on the figure of Cynthia).
Contents:
f. 1r: An added note in 17th-century hand.
ff. 2r-94v: Sextus Propertius, Elegiae.
ff. 94v-95r: Anonymous derivative version of Monobiblos (book 1 of the Elegiae), beginning: ‘Qui quidem dicitur monobyblos a monos’.
[ff. 96r-v are blank].
Decoration:
3 large initials in colours and gold, on a square ground in purple or gold (ff. 2r, 18v, 73v). Medium initials alternately in plain red or blue. Small initials alternately in red or green. Headings in green or red. A heraldic achievement of arms, added in the 17th century (f. 2r).

Foliation: ff. i + 98; ff. i, 1 and 98 are original parchment flyleaves; f. 97 is a list of contents added by Burney; Burney pagination in ink, now crossed out.
Collation: i2 (ff. i-1), ii-x10 (ff. 2-91), xi6-1 (last leaf missing; ff. 92-96).
Script: Humanistic cursive.
Binding: Post-1600. Pre-Burney binding of lightly diced brown leather; marbled endpapers; the edges of the leaves are red; spine re-backed in the British Museum in 1950.

Provenance:
Pompileus Maghegnatus, notary of Castelfranco Veneto(?), c. 17th century: inscribed ‘Hic liber est me, Pompileus Maghegnatus Notarius, et Cives Castri Franci’ (f. 1r).
An unknown member of the Venetian Morosini family, 17th century: the family's arms, or, a bend azure, surmounted by a helm argent and an eagle crest sable langued gules, lion rampant supporters each robed or a bend azure (f. 2r).
?Daniel Heinsius (b. 1580, d. 1655): probably to be identified with no. 617 in his library (see Butrica, Manuscript Tradition, p. 245).
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
