Decoration
4 large historiatedinitials in colours and gold, with foliate marginal extensions, at thebeginning of each book (ff. 1r, 22r, 44r, 76r). Small initials alternately red withpurple flourishing, or blue with red flourishing. One-line initials in bluewith simple red penwork decoration.

Binding: Post-1600. 'Sicily' binding of polished brown calf (typical ofmanuscripts bought by Burney at Sotheby's, 19 April 1817, which included bookssaid to have been imported from Sicily); red and green mottled edges.

Unidentified collection, 18th century: inscribed with a shelfmark(?) 'NN.22.18'(f. 1r, lower margin). Unidentified owner: in the anonymous sale, ‘Importation from Sicily’, 19 April1817, lot 26, bought by Burney for 11s. Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
