Provenance:
Cardinal Giovanni Salviati (b. 1490, d. 1553): his ownership inscription, 'Io. Car. de Salviatis', f 1r; no. 40 in his 1546 catalogue (see Cataldi Palau 1995, pp. 67, 83, 91).
Charles Townley (b. 1737, d. 1805), collector of antiquities, acquired in Rome in 1773 together with several other former Salviati manuscripts (including Burney 75, 86, 109, and Additional 5423).
John Towneley (bap. 1697, d. 1782), translator, Charles Townley's great-nephew: his sale, 8 June 1814, lot 887, bought by Burney.
Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar.
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
