'This Chart is partly constructed from observations made by me during numerous voyages to Canton; but up to the Second Bar Creek chiefly taken from the correct survey of Captains Ross and Maughan of the Bombay Naval Service, excepting the eatsern coast of Lantoa, the coast islands and channel to the eastward of Lintin Island and North Sand were obtained form a late survey by Capt Blakely assisted by other officers of the Company's ships. That part of the River from the Second Bar Pagoda to Whampoa given separate on an enlarged scale is chiefly from surveys performed by Captains Moffat, Newell, and Auber when officers in the Honble.
