Letters before 1957 were probably acquired by Reinhardt in the course of the publishing of the Autobiography; and include letters to Chaplin from Max Linder, Samuel Goldwyn, Waldo Frank, Frank Crowninshield, editor of Vanity Fair, a telegram from the Earl and Countess Mountbatten (photocopy), Stark Young, Upton Sinclair, Max Reinhardt, the film producer, Thomas Burke, H. Gordon Selfridge, Alexander Woollcott, Rob Wagner, Roger Ferdinand, Jawaharlal Nehru, enclosing a letter from Edwina, Countess Mountbatten (both photocopies). Correspondence after 1957 is related to the publication of the work, and includes correspondence of Reinhardt, Chaplin, Oona Chaplin, Eileen Burnier, Chaplin's secretary, Ragnar Svanström, of Norstedt & Soners Förlag, Graham Greene (who submitted several comments on the draft) and Jean-Félix Paschoud, of Verdant SA.
