p.33: Warren Hastings to William Harwood
Refers to new appointment of Ameers. Explains that it was necessary to ascertain real value of land in order to distribute assessment equally throughout Bengal. Need to give relief to districts which had been over-rated. Going to collect the Mofussil accounts of past collections from the Zemindars from which to compile valuation. Appointing people expressly for this task. But they will not interfere with the authority of Harwood or his council. Is enclosing a copy of the orders that he has given them. Invites Harwood's opinion. Warns him to familiarise himself with assessment as he will have to attend at Calcutta when settlement made. 4 folios.
