Correspondence and contracts relating to Greene’s books for children, The Little Train, The Little Fire Engine, The Little Horse-Bus and The Little Steamroller, originally published respectively by Eyre and Spottiswoode, 1946; Max Parrish, 1950; Max Parrish, 1952; Max Parrish, 1953. The Bodley Head acquired the rights to these through Solitas, a firm founded by Reinhardt, and when Reinhardt left The Bodley Head to found Reinhardt Books, there is considerable correspondence relating to the attempt by Max Reinhardt to acquire the rights to these from The Bodley Head, who were negotiating with Penguin: he abandoned the attempt in 1992. Also includes photocopies of drafts of a children’s story, written on postcards, by Greene ‘The Monster’s Treasure’, published as The Monster of Capri by Eurographica, Helsinki, c. 1985. Correspondents include: Reinhardt, Greene, Hilary Delamere (from her), Jill Black, Judy Taylor and Linda Summers, all of The Bodley Head, Laurence, Gerald and Murray Pollinger, of Laurence Pollinger Ltd, Laura Cecil, literary agent, Amanda Hargreaves, of Reinhardt Books, Bruce Hunter, of David Higham Associates, Elizabeth Attenborough and Margaret Bluman, both of Penguin Books, Elisabeth Dennys, Josephine Reid, secretaries to Greene, Jean-Félix Paschoud, of Verdant SA.
