- Scope & Content:
-
Collection of original glass negatives and lantern slides, as follows:
1. 26 whole plate glass negatives relating to the self-mutilation activities of the Islamic sect of Rafai Fakirs in Hyderabad City. Prints for almost all of these can be found in Mss Eur F222/16, Mss Eur F222/17 and Mss Eur F222/18. There are three negatives for which prints have not been made, probably due to their similarity with other images.
2. Four ¼-plate glass negatives, for which prints can be found in Mss Eur F222/16.
3. 38 lantern slides relating to the activities of the Rafai Fakirs, their holy books, etc., with a few illustrating the self-mutilating practices of other Indian ascetics.
4. 12 miscellaneous negatives and lantern slides relating to the Rafai Fakirs, some broken or in poor condition. One of these is the original negative of Mss Eur F222/14(1).
