- Correspondence regarding Coomby Achin: letter from R Lewis, Military Secretary, to Major James Romney, Commanding the Garrison of Paulghautcherry, instructing him on the seizure of the Atcheen, and enclosing the following items: copy of a Proclamation published at Paulghaut on the 10 July 1798 ordering Coomby Achin to surrender himself to the Commissioners at Calicut, or other officers of the East India Company, and submit his case to investigation; copy of a letter from the Commissioners to Hay Clephane, Assistant at Paulghaut, regarding Coomby Achin; copy of a Proclamation to be published at Paulghaut enjoining the subjects of the Malabar Province to apprehend Coomby Achin and turn him over to officers of the East India Company if he does not surrender himself to the Governments authority by the 1 August 1798; and a copy of a letter from the Commissioners to Major General James Hartley, Commanding Officer of the Troops in the Province of Malabar, ordering him to take such military measures as he thinks advisable to apprehend Coomby Achin and protect the country and its inhabitants from the depredations of Coomby Achin and his adherents [10 folios]
