- Journal kept by Allen during a tour of France, 10 July-25 Oct 1802, including notes on French institutions, etc., and followed by notes on Spanish affairs and history (ff. 33-55b, 58-59b, 61-82), 13 July 1804-18 May 1808, undated, and on French history (ff. 60, 60b, 84b, 85b) and (ff. 56-57b) a note on Russian history, circa 1803. There are also notes (ff. 83b, 84) on the prices in the Madrid Market, 19-29 Aug 1804, and at Burgos, Valencia and Valladolid, 7-30 Sep 1804. Reversing the volume are notes by Allen from various statistical works on French Departments, viz:- Joseph Jean Antoine Fauchet, Description abrégée du département du Var, Paris, an IX, (ff. 93b-92b); Antoine de Sauzay, Statistique du département du Mont-Blanc, Paris, an IX, (ff. 92-90b); Comte Germain Garnier, Description géographique, physique et politique du département de Seine-et-Oise, Paris, an X, (f. 87b); Claude Ignace Brugière de Barante, Observations sur les états de situation du département de l'Aude, Paris, an IX (f. 86b); also (ff. 90, 89b) notes on Drome and (f. 88b) a list of books published in Paris in 1802. Partly Spanish.
