The Psalter includes:

• Calendar (ff. 5r-10v); including added obits of the Haustede family (13th century); queen Eleanor of Castile (1290; f. 7v); Elizabeth de Bohun, countess of Hereford; daughter of Edward I (1316; f. 7r); Sir Roger de Mereworth (14th century f. 8r); Eleanor de Bar, daughter of Edward I, wife of Henry, Comte de Bar (1298, f. 8v).
• Psalms (ff. 11r-122r);
• Canticles (ff. 122r-130v);
• Athanasian creed (131r-132r)
• Litany of the saints with collects (ff. 132r-135v)

The decoration of the Psalter was executed in 3 phases and includes:

1. ff. 11r-18v: Large historiated initial 'B'(eatus) of David playing his harp (Psalm 1) with a full border decorated with birds, with the arms of Alphonso as the earl of Chester and Margaret of Holland and Zeeland, and the scene of David confronting Goliath in the lower margin (f. 11r). 10 smaller Psalm initials in rose or blue on gold grounds, with marginal extensions forming partial borders (ff. 12r, 12v, 13r, 13v, 14v, 16v, 17r, 17v, 18r, 18v), and scenes in the lower margins. The subjects of the marginal scenes are: a stag fighting with a dragon; a griffin fighting a lion; a monkey astride a crane-hybrid (f. 12r); a mermaid suckling a baby mermaid (f. 13r); a peacock, a rooster, and a pea hen (f. 16v); a lion attacking a man; a knight slaying a giant (f. 17r); a knight spearing a griffin (f. 18r).

2. ff. 5r-10v: Initials 'KL' in gold on blue and rose grounds in the Calendar (ff. 5r-10v).

3. ff. 19r-136: 9 initials in colours and gold with foliate borders at the Psalter divisions (ff. 26v, 37v, 47v, 48r, 58r, 71v, 83v, 85r, 97r) and smaller initials in colours and gold and line-fillers executed by two artists (ff. 19r-25v and 26r-135v).
