- Title:
- Papers and correspondence on relations between the Poetry Book Society and the Poetry Society
- Scope & Content:
- In 1984 the Poetry Society assumed responsibility for the administration of the Poetry Book Society. The move coincided with an attempt to boost the Poetry Book Society’s membership and the introduction of its simultaneous book club scheme, both of which were expected to put strains on the PBS’s limited administrative staff. A further pressure came from the Arts Council, which decided that the situation whereby it administered a society which it also subsidised must end. This file covers discussions around the Poetry Society’s assumption of administrative responsibility for the Poetry Book Society, and how the arrangement worked in practice over the following years, including discussion of costs, premises, representation on each other’s management boards, and staffing.
