5 large and smaller historiated initials, with partial borders or foliate extensions into the margins, in colours and gold (ff. 2r, 6r, 251r, 278v, 451v). Smaller initials with zoomorphic and foliate decoration, in colours and gold. Smaller puzzle initials in red and blue with pen-flourishing in blue and red. Small initials in red with blue pen-flourishing or in blue with red pen-flourishing.

Foliation: ff. iv + 557 (+ 2 parchment flyleaves at the beginning, and 2 at the end).
Script: Gothic.
Binding: Post-1600. Modern morocco bound by F. Bedford (b. 1800, d. 1884) (see Ch. Ramsden, London Bookbinders, (Batsford: [n. pub.], 1956), p. 36), stamped on the upper board with binder's name; gilt and gauffered edges.

Michael Tomkinson (b. 1841, d. 1921), carpet manufacturer: his book-plate (inside upper cover), probably no. 15 in his collection (number in pencil above book-plate).
H. Y. Young and sons, Liverpool, bookseller: bought 3 July 1922, lot 1089, for £34; in Henry Young catalogue, no. 17, p. 11 (cutting pasted inside lower cover).
Henry Yates Thompson (b. 1838, d. 1928), collector of illuminated manuscripts and newspaper proprietor: with his book-plate inscribed 'nn.e.e [i.e. £55.0.0] / [bought from] HY Young / …(?) / Nov 20th / 1922' (1st flyleaf [f. ii]).
Bequeathed to the British Museum in 1941 by Mrs Henry Yates Thompson.
