Annotated ‘27.x.88’ at the beginning of the score and ‘12.42 a.m. 8.i.89 at Killelton’ at the end. Dedicated to Pamela Bacon. Published by Alfred Lengnick & Co., n.d. Parts presented by Angela Simpson in 2000. Score presented by the Robert Simpson Society in 2011.
- ff. 68-83. Brass quintet, for horn, 2 trumpets, trombone and tuba; 1989. Parts, in pencil. Presented by Angela Simpson in 2000.
- ff. 84-93. String quintet for 2 violins, viola and 2 cellos; 1991-1994. Score, in pencil. Annotated ‘1.ix.91’ at the beginning of the score. Bars 1-556 are in Simpson’s usual clear hand and were evidently composed prior to the stroke suffered by the composer in 1992. 15 bars in an unsteady hand follow, and the score tails off abruptly in bar 571. These 15 bars have been crossed through and a replacement 6-bar ending supplied by the composer on a separate sheet (f. 92). A further sheet (f. 93) bearing a short melodic fragment is also enclosed in the score. Published by Alfred Lengnick & Co., ca. 1995. Presented by Angela Simpson in 2000.
