- ff. 1-11. ‘Variations and Finale on a Theme of Haydn’, for piano; ca. 1948. Dyeline reproduction of a copyist’s score, with performance markings in pencil. Published by Alfred Lengnick & Co., 1956. For a chamber version of this work, for violin, cello and piano, see MS Mus. 1738/8/1. Presented by Angela Simpson in 2000.
- ff. 12-72. Robert Simpson: Sonata for two pianos; 1980-1990. Composed in 1980 for Bracha Eden and Alexander Tamir; revised in 1990 and dedicated to Robert and Barbara Bates. Photocopy of the autograph manuscript, made before the ending of the work was revised by Simpson in 1990, with ink corrections (ff. 12-43); autograph score, in pencil (ff. 44-72). Annotated, on f. 72, ‘(25.ix.80 at Chearsley 11.55 a.m.) rev. 26.xii.90 from bar 943’. In this manuscript the work originally ended at bar 943. The composer subsequently erased the final notes in bar 943 and extended the work by a further 27 bars. Presented by Angela Simpson in 2000.
- ff. 73-89. ‘Eppur si Muove (Ricercar e Passacaglia)’, for organ; 1985. Score, in pencil. Dedicated to Annalise and Svend Aage Spange. Annotated ‘8.i.85’ at the beginning of the score and ‘3 p.m. 20.v.85 at Chearsley’ at the end. On the title page, Simpson has written, about the title (in English, ‘But it does move’): ‘the words Galileo is said to have muttered to himself on being forced by the church to recant his view that the earth revolved round the sun’.
