Four letters addressed to Shaw from Swan Sonnenschein & Co, his publishers, regarding the publication of Shaw's novel, An Unsocial Socialist. One of the letters (24 November 1886) has a draft of a reply by Shaw on its reverse side. Written in shorthand, the response suggests a number of literary figures and publications (including R. L. Stevenson and the Dramatic Review) to whom advance copies of the novel could be sent for review. In the final letter, the publishers offer an explanation for the poor sales of the book. This file also includes two royalty statements, and a typescript transcript of the aforementioned shorthand draft.
Also included is an auction slip from the Bonhams sale (2009), which describes one of the items found in this file.
