Add MS 89002/6/2

1. An extract (typescript, 13 sheets) from Christopher Isherwood, Down There on a Visit (1962). The extract, which is without markings or annotation, is entitled 'Ambrose' and corresponds to pp. 61-73 of the edition published by Simon and Schuster (New York, 1962), although the text differs considerably. According to an entry in Isherwood's diary, a draft reached Upward via Stephen Spender: see Isherwood, Diaries Volume One: 1939-1960, p. 852 (entry for 16 April 1960).

2. A second and considerably longer draft extract (typescript, without markings, sheets numbered 3-68) that also appears to be related to Down There on a Visit. See typescript p. 55: '"But - I'm only down here on a visit", Peter told them, as soon as he could get a word in'. However, the extract must form part of an earlier draft since it does not correspond at all to the published text. Another passage in Isherwood's Diaries (p. 771), the entry for 22 August 1958, refers to his progress in writing Down There on a Visit: 'As for Down There on a Visit, I have done quite well and am practically up to Los Olvidados, as I hoped. But the contents of the Olvidados section is still vague'. For 'Olvidados', see typescript p. 66.
