Add MS 12187, ff 326r-327v

The Kitāb al-buthūr fī ‘alāmāt al-mawt (كتاب البثور في علامات الموت) is the Arabic version of a pseudo-Hippocratic text known as the Ἱπποκράτους νοήματά τε καὶ σημειώσεις περὶ ζωῆς καὶ θανάτου. A Latin version made from the Arabic exists, and is known variously as the Secreta Hippocratis due to the text having suppopsedly been hidden in Hippocrates' tomb, the Capsula eburnea (from the درج عاج mentioned at the beginning of the text, f. 326r, line 8), and the De pustulis. The manuscript was copied in 1838, in Cairo, by the scribe Ayyūb of Nazareth (see colophon to item four, f. 330, lines 9-13).

Begins (f. 326r, lines 7-11):

وصورة هذا الأمر أنه لما حضرة الوفاه أمر أن تكتب هذه العلامات التي تذكرهنا في

درج عاج وتوضع معه في قبره لئلا يطلع عليها أحد فأحب قيصر ملك الروم معاينة

قبر بقراط لينظر إليه فإذا هو قبر ذليل فأمر أن يحول ويبنى له بيتًا رفيعًا فوجد

معه هذا الدرج مكتوب فيه قال بقراط إذا كان في وجه المريض ورم ولم يوجد له

سبب وكانت يده اليسرى على صدره مرفوعة فاعلم أنه يموت إلى ثلاثة وعشرين ليلة

Ends (f. 327r, line 17-f. 327v, line 1):

... وإذا كان تحت الرقبة

بثرة ومن الجفن الأسفل من العين اليسرى بثرة بيضاء فاعلم أن صاحبها يموت إلى أحد

عشر يومًا من مرضه وأية ذلك أنه يعرض له في بدء مرضه شهوة الحلو شهوة شديدة

والله أعلم بغيبه وأحكم
