- Scope & Content:
- Description: In the 16th century, La Cumbre was a mountainous and large piece of land in the Argentine province of Córdoba. It was occupied by the Spaniards under the justification that the indigenous people did not cultivate it. Then, the estancia San Gerónimo was created as the property of conquistador Bartolomé Jaime and his sons. This land of pastures remained unchanged for three centuries but, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the Italian, Spanish, and British immigration changed La Cumbre from a hamlet into a city. The period of growth took place from 1900 to 1940, partly, due to the construction of the railway in 1892. Its landscape and weather soon turned the city and its surroundings into the tourist attraction that is today. The documents in this envelope refer to the rivers, small towns, buildings, houses, and mountains of La Cumbre in the province of Córdoba. Extent of original: Handmade envelope .
