- Description: This envelope informs us of Antonio Alice (1886-1943), one of the very important Argentine painters before 1943. Disciple of Decoroso Bonifanti, he worked in Italy with main painters such as Grosso, Tavernier and Gilardi. His artistic search was to paint his native country and its history with works such as La muerte de Güemes (or Güemes’ Death—Güemes was a rich landowner and caudillo in Salta during the War of Independence), Retrato de Señora (or Portrait of a Lad), San Martín en Boulogne-sur-Mer (this is, General José de San Martin at the French port where he died), and Argentina, and Tierra de promisión (or Argentina, The Promise Land). He exhibited in main cities such as Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, Turin, Genoa, Rome, Venice, Munich and Paris. This is a handmade envelope with four stationary envelopes plus loose materials. The documents are newspapers' and articles' clippings and articles, photos, engravings, and one booklet.
