- Title:
- Flores Universidad Popular y Themis Club [1920s-1940s]
- Scope & Content:
- Description: This envelope informs us about Las Flores. At the beginning of the 19th century, the region was a frontier with the indigenous population but the latter were cruelly defeated and Las Flores started to develop under the criollo government, particularly, in the 1830s when Rosas tried to centralise his dominion of these lands close to the city of Buenos Aires. In 1856, the town of Flores was founded by Manuel Venancio Paz and in the Census of 1869, Las Flores reveals a majority of rural population plus a high number of immigrants. By the last decade of the 19th century, the district exported cereals and meat, consequently, the railways were established for the exportation of these products. In 1908, Las Flores officially became a city but it remained a rural area for quite a time as it could never overcome the agro-export model that economically prevailed in Argentina for most of the 20th century and even to-day. This is handmade envelope that contains two stationary envelopes with newspapers’ and magazines’ articles and clippings plus photos. Extent of original: Handmade envelope . Condition of original: Regular to bad condition.
