'A List of Charts and Sailing directions, issued originally by the Honourable East India Company, and subsequently by H[is/Her].M[ajesty's]. Secretary of State for India in Council'

Scope & Content:

The title and the following paragraph are taken from 'A Catalogue of Manuscript and Printed Reports, Field Books, Memoirs, Maps, etc., of the Indian Surveys Deposited in the Map Room of the India Office', India Office (1878).

'Under these authorities the Charts were in the charge of Mr. John Walker, and edited and engraved by him as successor to Capt[ain]. Horsburgh, from 1836 to 1861, when the Marine Surveys and Charts were transferred to the Admiralty'.

The charts are numbered 1 to 201, with several comprising more than one map sheet.
